I'm part of an upcoming (in the next couple months) bird horror anthology. I've written several bird related horror tales. But, I didn't know it was a trend! Love it!
I've never seen it but I remember the trailers and this post has piqued my interest. Also, I've definitely seen a bird horror this year called 'Cuckoo.' It was a mixed bag - pretty sure time travel was dropped and the ending was way too long and overblown. But anyway, this post helps recontextualize that movie for me.
You got the idea instantly. 'Cuckoo' will be Part III of this series :). I liked it, but I also realize I'm in the minority with that. I agree, it was far from great, but its eeriness, similar to 'Vivarium,' was intriguingly weird and fucked-up (in a good way). Plus it was Hunter Schafer's first lead role in a feature, really, and I think she delivered. But more on that in Part III.
Welcome! I thought it was def-ly atmospheric and weird in a good way. Just ultimately not fully formed. And there were def-ly hints at larger sci-fi stuff that were rather underexplored. Looking forward to Part 3.

I’ve seen it, great little flick — very out-of-the-box, which I loved. That said, I wouldn’t call it a horror.

Nice!
It may not be a trend yet, but I’m working on it, haha :)

'Cuckoo' had zero tension. 'Vivarium', however, terrific!
Well, we differ on Cuckoo, I liked it quite a lot and will tell you why in Part 3 of this series.

PS.: Thank you for the restack, I appreciate it.
